We always love a chance to get together with our friend Alice of Hair by Alice.

She’s an utterly fantastic Virginia Beach hair stylist (or is it hairstylist?), in case you didn’t know.

Kait modeled for her; Taylor Sites provided us with some fantastic, last minute calligraphy! Thanks, ladies!

Some of these were shot on Fuji400h – some were shot on Portra 400. Some were scanned on a Noritsu scanner, some were scanned on a Frontier.

We were hoping for a bigger turnout, but it ended up being Carina, myself, Jennifer, and our gorgeous model, Kimberly.

We ended up having such good fun together!

Getting there in our little blue Prius was an adventure!

Our GPS decided that Jennifer’s house was not where she told us it was…

Being children of the 21st century, we decided to trust it…

… and almost ended up stuck in the mud in the middle of a cotton field.

Waverly is gorgeous, and there’s so much cotton! There are also plenty of roads through those cotton fields not designed with little hybrid cars in mind.

But we made it there safely to find Jennifer and Kimberly waiting for us in a  cottage which is dedicated to making beautiful images.

We walked around outside for a bit but the best part came inside-

The living room has huge windows. We also put Kimberly in a lacy dress and had her pose against a canvas backdrop.

Who says you can’t shoot indoors with natural light and a few rolls of film?

All of these were shot on film, either on Portra 400 or Portra 800, and for the indoor shots we shot mainly handheld at 1/30th – 1/60th of a second.

Thanks so much to Jennifer for inviting us out to the cottage! Hopefully we can have another film get-together and maybe get some more photographers involved!

Our lovely Gloucester model Taylor did her own makeup, and our friend Angela of the Bridal Boutique of Gloucester provided a lovely wedding dress.

Angela’s shop is currently running some major sales on wedding dresses between $100-$2000. Be sure to check her out!

This isn’t exactly a “styled shoot,” but still, what photographer turns down the chance to photograph such a beautiful lady in a beautiful dress?

There was also a second model, the gorgeous Geena, but we’ll give her her own blog post tomorrow!

So yeah, when can we shoot again?

I’ve been aching to get my hair cut for quite a while now. After all, my last hair cut was more than a year ago!!!
I had grown so sick of my super-long locks; I hardly ever wore them open anyways. I just couldn’t think of any cool things to do with them.
So I wore them in a bun and a ponytail. That’s about it How boring…

Definitely time for a change! After putting together pages of inspiration photos (I know…I figured my hairstylist would end up hating me…), I finally got a makeover!!!
I am super excited about it, Lauren from Shear Style Salon in Yorktown did such an amazing job!!! Even better than what I had hoped for!!!
So I will spend tonight going through my hair and trying out new hair styles in front of the mirror Something I very rarely did the past year…

PS: PLUS, I am thrilled that my hair won’t accidentally dangle in front of the camera lens at weddings or photo shoots anymore, haha!

A few days ago we got to hang out with Alice Olson of Hair by Alice – you can read more about that here – and we got to meet the wonderful Theresa Little of Theresa Little Makeup Artistry.

Theresa Little is a prominent Virginia Beach makeup artist whose work has been featured in multiple publications and television commercials.

Just for fun, and for Alice to work her creative magic, Theresa did the makeup for herself and Alice did this bold, original styling in what seemed like no time at all.

It’s not often one of our makeup artist friends turns model and steps in front of the camera herself, but Theresa did! She was sporting not only Alice’s awesome styling but her own makeup, with shadows to accentuate her cheeks, deep magenta to boldly accentuate her lips and to match the tones in her hair, and green around her eyes to compliment the streaks of green in the feathers in her hair. And yea, she did all that in probably less than half an hour.

This is what it’s like when a team of creatives gets together to have fun!
