Joia and Dan know more than most what it means to be separated due to his devoted service to his country.

Lianne and Erich have been on our blog before.

Soon after they were in front of our cameras as a styled bride and groom, Lianne contacted us for her maternity boudoir session.

We were so honored to be invited back into the intimacy of their beautiful home to welcome Baby Isla to the world with a lifestyle portrait sessionon film.

Not only is this beautiful family simply made for photos, their house is a photographer’s paradise. We were able to shoot 100% film in 100% natural light.

We are just in love with this precious family and are so excited to finally share these scans on our blog!

Josh and Becky married this past weekend in an absolutely moving ceremony at the Langley Air Force Base Chapel.

While we can’t share their wedding photos with you yet, (we are sending their rolls of film off to be developed today), we CAN share these portraits we captured of Becky back in April!!!

We photographed these in Historic Yorktown, Virginia.

We met with Becky, her mom, her dad, and a friend and went (with permission from the Park service) to our “secret garden.”

Just shooting film was the perfect compliment to Becky because her beauty is just timeless!!

Kim just blew us away. She is so kind and my goodness, so beautiful. Needless to say I have also fallen in love with her gorgeous dress! As these were taken just a few days before her wedding day, you can really see the sweet anticipation of becoming a wife to her best friend.

The big day was almost two weeks ago at the amazing Pippin Hill Farm in Charlottesville, Virginia. Unfortunately we weren’t available to photograph their wedding, but they had a great photographer (can’t wait to see the photos).

All of Kim’s bridal portraits were photographed on film (Fuji 400H and Portra 800, developed by Richard Photo Lab). We are SO excited to share them with you!  Vendor credits coming soon!

Rachel and her hubby Nathan are two of the most fortunate people we’ve met,; of them it can truly be said, “their cup runs over.”

They have four beautiful children together.  Four healthy, beautiful children filled with energy and life.

That would be enough, but on top of that, Rachel and Nathan are such an amazing team.

When he’s not working in DC, Nathan is just the type of cool dad + husband every guy should aspire to be.

In addition to being a full-time mom, Rachel also happens to be an fantastically talented photographer, a lawyer, and as of recently, the founder of an amazing studio!!

(Seriously, especially if you’re a photographer, go check Rachel out!)

For their family session in Fredericksburg, Rachel invited her parents to come along. It made it all the more special to have 3 generations in front of the lens. <3

It was important, especially as I (Mike) am a former kindergarten teacher, to keep our session loose, fun, and “lifestyle.”

Basically we just let this awesome family do their thing and we came along for the ride to take pictures!

Some people ask us, “How can you shoot family sessions on film?” Our only answer: “How can we NOT shoot family sessions on film?!”

Rachel and Nathan, your family is just delightful. Thank you for giving us the pleasure of capturing these moments on what turned out to be such a perfect spring day.

First of all, we can’t congratulate this lovely lady enough as she graduates today!

Andrew, who always seems to have the heartiest laughs and the brightest smile, asked Jessica to be his bride in Virginia Beach.

There were lanterns and romance in the salty air.

She said yes.

These two have so much spirit and enthusiasm for life, you can’t help but be blessed just to be near them.

Jessica and Andrew are special to us, not just because of how much they love each other, but also for becoming friends of ours since asking us to photograph their wedding.

Also, for introducing us to Red Robin.

For their engagement photos, Andrew and Jessica chose the Williamsburg Winery to be the backdrop for their session.

Jessica’s hair & makeup was styled the day of by Kristal Lane of Virginia Beach.

To foreshadow her bridal bouquet, Jessica also received an elegantly simple & lovely flower crown from our friends at Palette of Petals.

The lovely staff of Williamsburg Winery welcomed these two on the day of their engagement with a picnic basket and some of their best wine.

We have to thank Andrew for his positive thinking, too. Despite a 60+% chance of rain, and at times a forbidding looking sky, the rain held off. Andrew “chose to believe it wouldn’t rain,” and it didn’t.

We ended the lovely day with a private tour of the cellar.

Andrew and Jessica, thank you for inviting us to capture all of the fun and and beauty of your love story and your big day! We are so looking forward to your August wedding!

When Sophia contacted us for her very special shoot a few months ago, we decided to wait until the weather got a little warmer and less… shall we say, schizophrenic?

Such a good decision!

These two are high school sweethearts and passionate new photographers. They have such an amazing story, which we won’t share here but…

They had a lot of odds stacked up against them. A lot. And their love overcame everything.

Sophia has such a beautiful, charming personality that is just infectious. Her laugh is as colorful and bright as her big red sun-hat.

He’s a quiet soul, but you can tell how much Ben loves her  just by the way he plays the guitar. Sometimes you hear music, and you just know there’s passion behind it… that’s Ben.

Destination Film Engagement Photographers | Derric + Rebekah | Michael and Carina Photography

It’s an honor to be asked to document a wedding, but it’s a special sort of compliment to be booked by another wedding photographer like Rebekah. She is such a talented and creative wedding + senior photographer!

Thinking about Rebekah and Derric’s beach engagement session in Delaware really gives us goosebumps. Rebekah and Derric can hardly remember a life before being a couple. They grew up together and want to grow old together.  Who doesn’t melt at the thought of young love?

Although we had never met Rebekah face to face, by the time of their engagement session, we had become friends. Rebekah and Derric live in Pennsylvania, several hours from where we are in Virginia, so we don’t get to see each other face to face. We’ve gotten to know them over the past months through Facebook and telephone, planning each detail of their upcoming wedding in Lancaster, PA. We could hardly wait to finally meet them both in person!

They picked Cape Henlopen in Delaware for their engagement session. It was perfect. Huge sand dunes, hidden pathways and the lovely, summery smell of sea salt in the air…most of all Cape Henlopen is special to them. It is a place filled with memories. When we asked them about their favorite spot in the world for an engagement session location, where they would just spend the perfect day together, there wasn’t any hesitation. This is so them. Being outdoors, having fun together. Riding bikes, holding hands, kissing in the forest, running at the beach and whispering “I love you”. This is young love.

It was an honor to capture all of these special moments on film. We had a blast together and we can hardly wait for their wedding in Pennsylvania this coming August, when Rebekah and Derric will finally be husband and wife!
