Flashback to early 2011:
We had both been “learning” the ins and outs of photography for a couple of years already when we started inviting couples to be our “guinea pigs.”
Nic and Aicha were the first to respond!
Nic and Carina grew up virtually grew up in class together in a Bavarian grammar school. When we moved to Bavaria together, he had just moved to Florida to spend a year working in Orlando.
Nic’s favorite thing about living in the USA? How close he lived to the gym! Seriously, when he got back to Bavaria we hardly recognized him anymore.
He also brought his fiancee back with him – the beautiful German, Aicha.
We had a lot of great fun with our very basic equipment – Canon 60Ds, a Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens (which had an allergy to focusing properly) and a 17-55 2.8 zoom.
Oh, and a reflector! Actually, we still have and mainly use the same reflector! 🙂
The images aren’t technically perfect when we look at them now, but we are so happy we started where and when we did, and that we were able to start with such awesome friends!
All photos are from roughly March 2011

What makes them an even more awesome couple?
Nic and Aicha, like us, spent years trying to get back to the USA.
In fact, as soon as they landed in Germany (a country they had only come back to because their visas expired), they started working towards moving back to the Sunshine State.
(Yes, in a country of over 10 million illegal immigrants, their are still some [Nic – Aicha – us!] who try to get in by doing things the legal way!)
After years of struggling, they got their visas.
In April 2012, we saw them off in a bittersweet goodbye party with their friends and family.

We did promise them that when we followed them across the ocean we’d come to visit, even if it meant driving “all the way down there from Virginia…”
Welll…..
A few weeks ago we got this email:
Hi guys,
How are you all doing? I hope the hoodies we sent you were the right size…
I just wanted to ask if both of you have time to come down to Orlando because Aicha and me would love to make a photo shooting with you. I don’t know how busy you are but let me know what time date would be the best for you. We thought about the first week of March, but it’s up to you…Thank you very much in advance!!
Hugs,
Aicha, Nick and Emma (the dog) 🙂
Ummm. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
So, if you guys wonder where we are the first week of March, we are taking a road trip through the South to see some very near and dear old friends for a VERY special couple shoot!!
If you’re not excited, trust me, we’re more than excited enough for you and us and everyone else… 😉
August is coming with us naturally…
after a very busy month of February (I don’t know why people call this time “quiet time”) it will be awesome to see something different, but if anyone would like to contact us you can still reach us via our email!!
Until then… we’ll be sure to take lots of pictures… 🙂
PS. Oh, and guess who volunteered to look after our cats? One of our AWESOME 2013 wedding couples!! Do we have the coolest clients or what?!
