A beautiful couple, an adorable teacup Yorkie named Dani (it’s not a puppy- it’s full grown!), colors of spring and a late afternoon photoshoot in the heart of Gloucester County, Virginia.
We met them at the lovely little house Joy and Brian recently purchased in Gloucester.
Flowers are blooming in the yard; a flag hangs next to the driveway with an “H” for Hudspath.
“Slowly turning this house into a home,” Brian says.
Brian’s a welder. Joy is a nurse. They’re tying the knot next year at Ford’s Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Virginia.
But for their engagement shoot, Joy told us they could think of no better place than the place that meant the most to them: their new home.
All of these fantastic photo locations? Within walking distance of their house!!
We went for a walk, with permission, through the amazing garden of their neighbor.
It wasn’t hard for them to open up on camera. Joy was all smiles. Brian said after seeing one photo, “That pretty much sums up our relationship- me making her smile.”
Brian didn’t find it hard to smile when he looked at his fiancee, either.
Joy and Brian, thank you for an amazing evening, for honoring us with the chance to document your love story, and for the awesome ride through the country in the back of a pickup truck!
Thanks to Kate Lang for doing Joy’s hair and makeup!
Dani, thanks for putting up with us as patiently as you did!
Looking forward to your 2014 wedding- it can’t come fast enough!!

Photography info: this was photographed almost exclusively using a 35mm L 1.4 and a 100mm 2.8 L lens on Canon 5d Mark IIs. We also photographed with medium format film – scans coming soon!!
