Candace and Chad met with us in Norfolk Botanical Gardens for their beautiful, engagement styled (though not officially engaged yet) couple session.

It was our first time shooting in Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and we’d LOVE to shoot there again soon *ahem ahem* in case you’re looking for ideas in Southeastern Virgnia/Hampton Roads area…

We photographed a mix of film and digital, and woke up this morning to find our 120mm Fuji 400h Contax 645 film scans had arrived from Indie Film Lab!!

We are in love with the colors of fuji400h, especially on overcast days like the day of our shoot. We photographed the whole session wide open at f2 on our Zeiss 80mm f2 lenses.

Hampton Roads Model Headshots | Michael and Carina Photography

In the midst of all of our wonderful weddings, I (Mike) got to hang out with Natalie B. last week in Newport News Park, where I met up with her and our assistant Seth for a mentoring session.

Seth did an excellent job!

It’s great to see someone you’ve worked with a long time grow creatively. Seth mainly shot 35mm film… I’m looking forward to seeing his shots!

Natalie is an aspiring model from New York who lives in Virginia Beach. She’s really energetic and loves to play with the camera.

It was all about having fun.

Seth was also nice enough to hold some off camera lighting behind Natalie towards the end and I got a chance to practice the AMAZING capabilities of Canon’s relatively new 600EXs.

Keswick Vineyard Wedding Photographers | Julie + Tim | Michael and Carina Photography

Tim and Julie skyped with us back in October… we knew that before the session was over that they were exactly our kind of couple.
They decided to get married in the rolling hills of Keswick Vineyards, where we also photographed their engagement session back in March.

She loves Grace Kelly & Jason Mraz.

He loves the Baltimore Ravens.

They love each other, and Julie’s son Aiden.

Their entire lives have been leading up to this moment… this day… where all three of them become a family.

… and it was perfect, complete with a dessert buffet, a chorus of summer cicadas, and DIY bouquets.

After walking down the aisle to the serenading of the excellent guitarist Billy Caldwell, we toured the vineyards for their portraits. They danced the night away to a mix of country, hip-hop and 90s pop.
It was a night to remember.

Julie and Tim, thank you for making us a part of your Keswick “dream” wedding! We wish you all the best!

Virginia Wedding Photographers | Mathews, Virginia | Kingston Plantation | Angela + Jesse

Angela and Jesse… you know them from Gloucester County, Virginia.

They’re a really special couple to us…

When we moved here and had nothing, and were just starting out, they put their faith and trust into us.

It’s one thing to decide on any wedding photographer, but it’s a big step to invest in people “fresh on the scene…”

And not only did they invest in us… but after we photographed their engagement session, a lot of their friends did too…

9 years together, they will celebrate their anniversary on their honeymoon…

And they’re finally married.

Their wedding took place at Kingston Plantation, an impressive, old plantation house right on the water in Mathews County, Virginia. The weather was perfect.

The wind off of the water was the only other sound aside from the minister’s voice when she pronounced them husband and wife.

Jesse kissed his bride.

Their friends and family stood up and cheered.

It gave us goosebumps.

This is the best job in the world.

And Jesse and Angela – thanks for giving us the honor of photographing your special day.

Justin is not only a super-cool CNU graduate who plays softball, the guitar, and can sing, but he’s also a photographer!
